環境

曼徹斯特（Manchester），英格蘭的西北部城市，是英國的重要城市之一。市內人口437,000，大曼徹斯特都市郡有人口2,539,000。曼徹斯得名於古英語名字「Mamucium」，及後演化，加上「ceaster」，起源於古拉丁語「Castra」而變成「Manchester」。

曼徹斯特擁有2所主要大學：曼徹斯特大學（University of Manchester）和曼徹斯特都會大學（Manchester Metropolitan University）。前者是全英國最大的全日制大學，於2004年秋天由原先的曼徹斯特維多利亞大學和UMIST組成。鄰近的薩芙Salford有薩芙大學，距離曼徹斯特市中心只有2英里。

加上波頓大學（University of Bolton）和皇家北方音樂學院（Royal Northern College of Music），曼徹斯特市學生人數達到73,000，是歐洲學生最多的地方之一。曼徹斯特都會大學、曼徹斯特大學和皇家北方音樂學院都位於市中心的南面，組成一個巨大的校區群。

體育特別是足球是曼徹斯特文化的重要部分。大曼徹斯特區的球會數目達到全世界最高人均數字。曼徹斯特有兩個著名的足球俱樂部：曼徹斯特聯隊(曼聯，Manchester Unite)和曼徹斯特城隊（曼城，Manchester City），乃英國最高水準足球聯賽英超聯的參賽球會。曼城主球場是曼城球場(City of Manchester Stadium)，而曼聯主球場—老特拉福德球場(Old Trafford Stadium)則是英格蘭地區的最大球會足球場，位於特拉福德的郊區。兩支球會中以曼聯全球知名，常是英超聯的冠軍，素有「無敵」、「常勝軍」的美譽。

設備

曼徹斯特都會大學（Manchester Metropolitan University）的教學與完善的個人電腦和終端機網路相輔相成，另有相當多種軟體和多工作站技術協助，學生皆可使用E-mail。學校圖書館有一百萬冊書籍，和三千五百種期刊，學生可使用開放式CD-ROM設備和上線目錄，本校University of Manchester及UMIT有圖書館互惠協定，學生可使用市中心的大型公共圖書館（包括一個中文區）。

國際生可加入由幾所當地大學資助提供多種活動的本市國際社團，曼徹斯特有許多宗教信仰中心（教堂、清真寺、猶太禮拜堂、寺廟），因其音樂和流行服飾的領先地位而聞名英國學生之間，最知名的運動代表是Manchester United足球隊，但本市也有其他國際級的運動設施，包括板球和自行車。這些資源都是在英國留學期間可以好好利用的。

住宿資訊

曼徹斯特都會大學（Manchester Metropolitan University）二十一棟宿舍樓內可安頓二千五百名學生，幾乎都是新生。此外主校園中的私人大樓住有一千多名學生；本市人口約10%為學生，所以有許多私人房舍出租，而學校的住宿辦公室可協助安排住處。

迎新、新生訓練課程連同學習技巧和生涯建議一起提供，也有語言、保健和看護設備。英國留學學生皆可加入學聯，它組織了八十餘種運動、音樂、政治和文化性的俱樂部和社團。
