University of Salford（索福特大學）創立於西元１８９６年，當時名為皇家工業學校，１９６７年時獲女皇頒發特許狀正式改制為大學，此後一直沿用現在的校名稱為索福特大學。University of Salford（索福特大學）與工業界建立緊密聯繫、提供與業界需求相關聯的課程，並在遭遇問題的技術和管理層面上，致力研究。因此，為本校畢業生創造了卓越的職業前景，學生有機會任職於世界上著名的公司，如空中巴士公司（Airbus）和微軟（Microsoft）公司等，也可以在政府部門或創造性行業內工作。

該校分為四個院，每個院都有自己傑出的學科領域。本校的人造環境和資訊系統研究（包含資料網路化和電腦學），榮獲最高評分5*。此外，本校的政治學和生物科學，也因優質的教學而榮獲很高的評分。大學的媒體與流行音樂課程在全球享有盛譽，本校是英國唯一自己有電視臺的一所大學，電視臺用陸地信號（M頻道）播放節目。

University of Salford（索福特大學）９０%多的畢業生在畢業後的六個月內，就找到工作或繼續深造。大學超過三分之二的全日制本科課程安排工作實習，超過９５%的實習對學生獲得學位，發揮了積極作用。為了表彰索爾芙大學對全球建築行業所做出的卓越貢獻，本校最近榮獲女王周年獎。

University of Salford（索福特大學）位於英格蘭西北部人口約２５０萬的Greater Manchester County(大曼徹斯特郡)，與英格蘭第二大城曼特斯特並列為雙子城，中間只隔著一條鄂維爾河。校園綠意如茵且其中包括許多古蹟，如皮爾公園等，而大學是位於Irwell河岸邊，距曼徹斯特市中心１.５英哩。

索福特和曼特斯特均是重要的工業城市，亦同樣經歷過工業革命的洗禮，今日兩城中仍到處可見工業革命遺留下的痕跡，例如穿梭於市區街道底下的運河網以及倉庫棧房，現今有許多倉庫已改建為辦公室和公寓了。從索福特步行到曼特斯特市中心只需要二十分鐘，距離風景旖旎的Cheshire，Derbyshire，湖泊區和威爾斯也非常近，搭火車到倫敦只需２小時，到蘇格蘭亦不遠，僅僅3個小時火車程。對英國留學學生來說，交通方便。值得一提的是，索福特大學擁有屬於自己的火車站，與曼特斯特國際機場間有直達火車往來兩地，旅程大約半小時。由於地利之便，在索福特的學生可就近到曼特斯特這個北方的教育、文化和商業中心，充份享受曼城可提供的一切，包括堪稱英國最大、最熱鬧的中國城。

University of Salford（索福特大學）有一個生動，友善且國際化的校園。有高度的自由發展空間及資訊科技設備。該校提供學生電腦網路，及聯絡其他同學時免費的網路 信箱及網際網路，全校有超過１０００台電腦供使用，學生可以一天２４小時一週７天的使用電腦。除此之外，該校還擁有歐洲範圍內功能最強大的圖像超級電腦， 以及種類極其豐富的專門化設備和實驗室設施。希望提高語言技能的學生，可充分利用本校尖端的語言資源中心，它設有同聲傳譯室和各種多媒體語言學習輔助資 料。

University of Salford（索福特大學）的室內娛樂設施有兩間體育館、三間設備齊全的健身房、一間檯球室、一間室內攀爬練習房和五個壁球場。Tom Husband娛樂綜合體內還有新建的游泳池、極可意和桑那浴室。Castle Irwell學生村有阿斯特羅草皮運動場。這些都是在英國留學期間可以善用的資源。
